Mintek's MDP-1770KIT offers the convenience of a home-theater component and the versatility of a portable DVD player with all the trimmings, from a tidy tote bag to a car kit and dual headphone setup. The player handles DVD-Video as well as standard and recordable audio CDs, MP3- and JPEG-encoded discs, and Kodak Picture CDs, which offer greater digital-photo viewing flexibility.
Its slender, 1-inch chassis houses a 7-inch widescreen (16:9) TFT liquid-crystal display and a high-capacity rechargeable lithium-ion battery. A remote control simplifies operation, and you can also navigate through discs using the top-panel controls, so you're not tied to the remote.
Audio features also include Dolby Digital passthrough and built-in stereo speakers for headphones-free listening. Alternatively, you can plug in the supplied headphone "Y" adapter and two sets of headphones for viewing with a companion. This handy configuration also spares whoever's up front from having to listen to blaring audio from a kids' movie in the back seat.

- 16:9 Widescreen Monitor
- Comes with Travel Bag, Two headsets, Y Adaptor, AV & Car Adaptor, AV Cable, Battery Pack

Test Report
Nice Picture, Sound & Battery Life. Bad Mechanics , April 23, 2005 Reviewer: B. Pine "Kinglord" (NY) - This player has a metal case with a nice picture, good sound and about 3+-hour battery life. Sold for $149 at Costco in a package deal with case & 2 Headphones. Went threw 2 players which showed the same problems after 2 days with the laser motor. It would freeze after awhile and you could hear the motor grinding. I thumbed it with my finger then it would skip a track them play for awhile and freeze again but more often. Gave the first one 4 days then the second 3 weeks to work the kinks out but no good so returned it. Noticed on this model the laser wasn't covered like on the $300 Mintek player. Can't tell you what the trouble was with the laser either the motor or screw track but it wasn't reading the discs. Not a Dependable Player or maybe Costco just got a bad batch.
Can't Believe I paid for this thing!, April 19, 2005 Reviewer: Barbara L. Smith (Knoxville, TN) -
I bought one for my daughter for Christmas right around Thanksgiving, of course I did not give it to her till Christmas. She was not allowed to take it out of its box till after we moved on January the 8th to our new home, because I didn't want to risk damage in the move. Then after it was opened and charged, it was used maybe 4 times before it froze up and would not play anymore. I called Mintek, and wouldn't you know they only have a 90 day warranty from date of purchase. I am going to have to shell out more money to fix it!!!! I feel totally screwed over for my 170 bucks. The thing is still sitting in its carry case in a closet waiting on me to decide to fix or go out and buy another one! I will never buy another Mintek anything. If they can't stand behind their product, they will never get one more dime of my money!
NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PEICE OF TRASH, April 19, 2005 Reviewer: Geiger - This supposed to be for family trips! Yah right. We wanted something to watch on long family drives! It is horrible. First of all the sound: You can hear anything, in a totally silient car AT ALLLLL! Our daughter was so frustrated she cried when it didnt work and she couldnt hear! Even with specially bought headphones with a volume switch to make it louder the noise level was extremly low and unable to be heard. We even tried speakers for our computer! This was extremly frustating but, if you hold the speakers up to your ear you can hear, some! So then we get to the battery life. Maybe one movie if your lucky! Gosh, we could plug it into to car charger and watch but it was ridiculous! The part that holds the screen you watch broke very quickly and we had to hold up the screen to see the movie. We had no problems with the remote and the carrying case was useful, the screen was fine. I was so disapointed the product definatly not reccomended! Dont waste your money on a losey piece of junk!
Got what I wanted, April 18, 2005 Reviewer: Patrick Brookover "Pat from Arlington, VA" (arlington, virginia) -
I purchased this portable almost three years ago right when it first came out. I hauled it to China..recharged it there and hauled it back. Been using it regularly ever since. Only recently has the battery started to lose it's ability to charge.
My child has abused it by pushing buttons, but it has always worked. I use it now without the battery. I got more use out of then most laptops. Thumbs up.
Good for the Money, April 11, 2005 Reviewer: A. Saladini (NY, NY) -
If you need a DVD player, this is it. Don't spend more than you need to.
great quality easy to operate, April 10, 2005 Reviewer: Thomas R. Schwald "Grandmaster" (Illinois) -
The mintek mdp-1770 comes with lots of nice options and I had it set up and working in 5 minutes.Sound and picture are both great. It's a totally different feeling then watching on a television.Everything is of excellent quality.
Stan, Review, March 23, 2005 Reviewer: Stan (Montgomery, NJ) - This play is good if you get a good one. My first player Froze, like in other reviews. Sent back and got another which has been working great. 4 months now and has been handled by me 2/half year old.
I noticed with the new player when I zoomed the Zoom Icon on the display will dissapear after a few seconds. With the first player the Zoom Icon stayed on until you shut off the zoom. So it seems that they make slightly different players under the same model number. So take a look at your zoom button on the remote and help see if I am right or crazy.I think this is the key to getting a good or bad player.
I also love the player because, It can be unlocked to play all regions {vcdhelp.com}, the charger is world widev {with a plug adaptor}, plays dvd+,dvd-,vcd,svd,mp3, dvds made by my lite on dvd recorder in all record modes{2,4,8 hour {VBR dvd}}. and can also pal output when we travel.
If you want a little better sound out of it adjust the equalizer setting.
It is also great getting all the stuff included that makes it truly a portable dvd player.
Another person said you can input video with this player, mine cannot, as said in tech. data. Also a player that looks exactly the same under another name is not always the same player. My friend has the inital which wll not play all of my home made dvds, but it looks exactly the same, except for how the battery hooks up.
April 15 2005 still going strong
Hope you all liked my first review
Worthless, March 13, 2005 Reviewer: Liz "frequent amazon customer" (Upstate New York) - The product arrived completely unusable. When the power is turned on a blue screen should appear. The screen on my machine remains dark.
When using the power adaptor a light appears showing the power is working. The disc spins around but no image is displayed nor sound heard. The disc does not stop spinning by pressing the "stop" button. It stops only by turning off the power.
The battery will not charge, but since the screen does not work it is a mute point.
Calls to Mintek were maddening. The customer service person with whom I spoke was rude and refused to be helpful in any way. I called on a Saturday and was told a technician would call me "some day" because they " are really backed up, especially since Christmas." This would indicate to me that Mintek has many problems with its products.
Messages sent to Amazon requesting assitance have so far been ignored. I ordered this machine to use on an upcoming trip and wanted a working machine before my departure.
Because Amazon and Mintek are not interested in assisting me promptly I am returning this product and making my purchase elsewhere.
If you buy this product, I wish you good luck. You are going to need it.
da freakin bomb, March 12, 2005 Reviewer: J. Osborne "lazyboy891" (the desert) - ive had my mintek dvd player for two years now. It has endured two deployments to Iraq in the blistering heat. I take very good of my stuff and believe me you have to out here with all this sand but ive had no problem out of it in two years. Any way its a good one and i have to say you cant go wrong unless you get a lemon.
Great value, nice player, February 26, 2005 Reviewer: Jacob Z (Richmond, IN USA) - This is an unbeatable price for a 7" portable DVD player. You can get the kit that includes a case, headphones, a car adapter, and a bunch of other stuff for only $154.79 from Amazon with free shipping.
Pros:
-Great picture quality
-Good sound quality, even using the speakers
-Decent battery life - about 3 hours
-Comes with everything you need
-Great value!
Cons:
-You can't use the car adapter to charge the battery
-User's manual is not very helpful; you'll have to figure out how to use it yourself
If you're looking for a decent portable DVD player for a great price, this one is a great choice. If you have the extra cash to spend, get a Sony or a Panasonic one because you can be sure of its quality.
