The PDV-0700 portable DVD player from Polaroid Electronics lets you enjoy your movies, music, and digital photos when you're on the road or relaxing in the comfort of your own home. Its autosensing power adapter (AC 100 to 240V, 50/60 Hz) makes it perfect for international use, too--a great companion for business or pleasure. The book-thin, MP3-friendly player features a broad, 7-inch LCD configured in a widescreen (16:9) aspect ratio whose dimensions closely approximate those of your favorite contemporary movies. A supplied rechargeable lithium-ion battery keeps your discs spinning for three to four hours between charges, and the player also comes with separate AC and DC power adapters for use indoors, in cars and boats--you name it.
The PDV-0700 also offers built-in stereo speakers for headphones-free listening, picture zoom, and compatibility with DVD-Video, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3-encoded discs--not to mention digital photos stored as JPEG images on recordable CD (you can rotate and zoom on these, as well). Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output (through a .125-inch minijack-to-RCA coaxial cable, not supplied) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.Amazon.com Product Description

Polaroid PDV 0700 does the job, April 17, 2005 Reviewer: Len "Len" (North Easton, MA United States) - If you're looking with a relatively inexpensive portable dvd player with great battery life, this is a good choice. It's easy to use (my 5 and 7 year olds have no problem) and pretty durable. Sound is adequate and picture is okay (widescreen). But I bought it for convenience, decent picture size, and battery life. Use good headphones. They'll help a lot.
great! except for...., March 14, 2005 Reviewer: Ivan (Middleburg, VA USA) - I recently bought this machine a couple days ago. It's great! The picture is superb and the remote is auesome. The only problems with it are:
1. The speakers are not that good. By themself they're ok, but with background noise you can't hear a thing.
2. If you mess with the color and light settings on the display, you can't reset these. When you reset to factory settings it only adjusts the DIGITAL color and light settings, i.e. the one from the menu. If someone knows how you do reset these, please tell me at ivanpowerkronick@yahoo.com.
finally, 3. you can't change the volume through the remote. Yeah, i know these are a little too much to ask for this price, but if you want a good DVD player for cheap, get this.
SEND IT BACK, March 11, 2005 Reviewer: A. Thoms (Wisconsin) - After reading other reviews I checked my portable DVD player over carefully when I recieved it and it looked warped in two areas and after trying to open the CD cover a couple of times it wouldn't stay shut. It felt very cheaply made! I did not open it any further (I only opened the main unit, not the battery) and am returning it to amazon.com. Amazon did a great job of letting me return it and I suggest you do not buy it!
Are 7 inches better than 5, February 12, 2005 Reviewer: J. Caldwell "Gadget Freak" (NJ USA) - The PDV-0700 player was not my first choice. I purchased a Dynex 5" player on sale at Best Buy after reading the positive reviews posted here. I was very satisfied with every thing about it except the 5" screen. It was just too small for my old eyes!
The units are similar, but there are a few differences.
1. The PDV-0700 is sleeker and just looks better.
2. It lacks a second headphone jack but a splitter
is included.
3. The Dynex battery could be left attached
without danger of being overcharged.
4. I would seriously suggest you purchase a good pair of
head phones like the Sennheiser PX-100's if you buy this
player as the maximum volume level is very low.
My only complaint is that an image in normal mode is not 7" large. There is a black band all around the image. In mode 2 the image is horizontally stretched and images appear wider than they actually are. The black bands are at the top and bottom of the screen. And mode 3 fills the screen but cuts off a bit of the top and bottom of the image. Maybe this is just typical of TTF and LCD screens.
All in all, I'm pleased with my purchase. It performs as advertised and has been trouble free so far.
Broken Case, February 4, 2005 Reviewer: Video Viewer "Video Viewer During Lunch" (Hayward, CA USA) - I love the DVD player, however suddenly a hairline crack in the case developed. Yesterday I opened the screen to watch a movie and the lid was partially disconnected from the unit. Two screws were out we were able to push the unit back today, however it won't close and keeps popping out. The screws must go inside as we can't see where to put them.
Even through all of this, the unit continues to play movies. The review for playing is 5 stars. I am so disappointed the case is made of plastic. It couldn't handle the opening and closing of the monitor. The review for this is a 1.
SECOND BUY AND LOVING IT!, February 1, 2005Reviewer:Ana (CALIFORNIA) - WE PURCHASED THIS DVD PLAYER FOR MY 6 YEAR OLD SON AFTER BEING GREATLY DISSAPOINTED WITH A 7" INSIGNA BRAND WE GOT AT BESTBUY...ONE WEEK IN USE AND IT BROKE DOWN REFUSING TO PLAY DVD'S. SO WE DECIDED TO TRADE IN FOR THIS POLAROID INSTEAD....THE PRICE IS REASONABLE AND THE QUALITY IS GREAT! MY SON HAS HAD IT FOR 5 WEEKS ALREADY, HE TAKES IT EVERYWHERE (EXCEPT SCHOOL:O) HE HAS DROPPED IT, BANGED IT, SCRATCHED IT, ETC. AND IT STILL PLAYS LIKE NEW. SO FAR NO SKIPS AND NO PROBLEMS PLAYING ANY DVD OR VCD. CONTROLS ARE SO EASY TO USE MY SON LEARNED THEM QUICK. HAS CAR ADAPTER, BATTERY FULLY LOADED LASTS ABOUT 3 HOURS. PICTURE IS CLEAN AND CLEAR, SOUND IS GREAT, IT'S NOT MEGA-LOUD (BUT THEN AGAIN, WITH YOUR CHILD BEHIND THE REMOTE, WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO GIVE'EM THE BOOM-BOX-VOLUME OPTION!) BUT IT IS LOUD ENOUGH TO HEAR IT CLEARLY....OVER ALL FOR THE PRICE & QUALITY IT IS A BARGAIN! I'M BACK HERE TO SHOP FOR A SECOND ONE FOR MY 13YR. OLD SISTER....BY THE WAY...HIGHLY RECOMMEND AT LEAST 2-YR INSURANCE PLAN IF YOU BUY IT FOR A CHILD! :o)
Poor quality, lots of problems, January 15, 2005 Reviewer: DVD pro (Birmingham ,Michigan) - I purchased this player 1 year ago for my wife. We had used it very little (and very gently...the kids don't use it)for a little over 3 months when the small button/switch for the screen broke. I returned it to Best Buy and after some pleading with the manager, he exchanged it for another one. We used it very little, maybe six times since then (on vacation last summer) and now, after 9 months, it doesn't work again! It seems the LCD screen wiring is broken as I can only get a picture on the scren by wiggling the left side of the hinge area. I'm very disapointed by the problems/quality with this product as compared to the cheaper APEX unit I bought for my teenage son WHICH STILL WORKS GREAT. Don't buy this player unless you have money to waste and need a good source of frustration.
Does anyone know how to bookmark a spot with this?, January 14, 2005 Reviewer:J J "Digital camera fan" (PA United States) - I have the player and love it...but can not figure out how to bookmark a spot if I want to go back and finish a movie. There is a title button but when I press it nothing happens..My home maching has a digital countdown timer..so you know how much time is left on a movie and how you can keep track of where you are at so you can resume right where you left off...but on this portable machine I can not see how to do this..Is this the same with most portable dvd players? Overall I like this unit..good picture..works great...good battery life. I heard some people complain of the hinge that keeps the door shut..that it is flimsy...all you need to do is press the button in first..then shut the lid..and release the button..this takes the pressure off of the little tab..if you can..email me at germanshepherd13@yahoo.com if you know how to book mark a spot on a dvd..thanks
Junk & Double JUNK, January 13, 2005 Reviewer: Slank (Kentucky) - My daughter recieved this player as a Christmas gift in 2004. She used it maybe 4 time in 2 weeks then it quite playing, no preview screen, no sound, no nothing, and on top of that the DVD door latch broke when i was trying to figure out what was wrong.
Wish I would have read some of the reviews on this product before we purchased it.
I recently traded it in on a Magnavox MPD720 picture is better and has all the same accessories and functions as the Polaroid and then some, cost is a little more ($239.00) but you probably get what you pay for.
Poor service, December 31, 2004 Reviewer: S. Furtaw (Saginaw, MI USA) - We received this unit as a Christmas gift. On 12/30 I opened the package for the first time. Upon power up, I discovered that one pixel was always green. The place of purchase did not have any more and will not be getting any more, so they told me to call Polaroid. Because the unit was purchased on 9/25/04, Polaroid told me that it was past the three months warranty and I would have to pay for parts and labor to have it fixed. While I understand their policy, they made it impossible for me to receive it as a Christmas gift and then have their defective product fixed. I am returning it to the place of purchase today and buying one from a different manufacturer.
